UniKL collaborates with Kiria in developing robotic industry

KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) will collaborate with Korea Institute for Industry Robot Advancement (Kiria) to develop new technologies in the field of robotics in the country.

Head of UniKL-MFI Robotic Excellence Centre, Prof Dr Ishkandar Baharin said the collaboration stemmed from bilateral negotiations between UniKL and Kiria held during the 11th Ubiquitous Robots and Ambient Intelligence (URAI 2014) international conference here recently.

“UniKL has agreed to collaborate with Kiria in developing robotic industry and producing robots here using Korean expertise,” he told Bernama.

He said the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry would assist in producing robots while the Ministry of International Trade and Industry would help with efforts in developing robotic industry in the country.

He said Kiria was selected based on their experience as one of the world’s fastest growing agencies in robotics.

According to Dr Ishkandar, the results of the collaboraton between UniKL and Kiria in producing robots would be presented at URAI 2015 in South Korea next year.

URAI 2014 held from Nov 12 to 15 recently, brought together academicians, engineers, and students involved in the field of robotics from around the world. — Bernama
