SIBU: Sibu Ping Pong Association (SPPA) is sending five of its top young guns for the Milo National New Hope Championship, Dec 1 to 4, in Malacca.
They are Karen Lynne Dick, Faustina Su Kwong Ai, Sia Xiao Ling, Cindy Lau Li Ping and Maxwell Lau Meng Wing.
Karen and Faustina, both 12, will compete in the U-13 category while Xiao Ling, Cindy and Maxwell, all nine years old, will take part in the U-9 category.
With the exception of Karen, this is the first time that the other paddlers are taking part in the National New Hope Championship.
SPPA’s coach Kong Tuong Sing said the young paddlers were selected for their recent shining performance in the Sibu New Hope Championship and also the Inter-school Table Tennis Championship.
“Each year, we will come across some young players making inroad at the championship. This year is no exception and there is bound to be surprises.”
Kong said the trip should be meaningful for the young paddlers as it could be a platform for them to gain the experience and exposure. The group will leave for Kuala Lumpur on Nov 30.
