JOHOR BAHARU: The police have put the spoke in the wheels of a syndicate which car-jacked luxury vehicles and committed a series of burglaries in three states.

During 12 raids in the Johor Baharu Selatan district on Nov 12, the police detained four men and two women to facilitate investigations into the theft of seven luxury cars.

The cars – Lexus, Mini Cooper, BMW and Mercedes Benz – were reported missing in Penang, Perak and Selangor.

Also recovered during the raids was a BMW motorcycle.

The suspects, aged between 17 and 35, are linked to 35 house break-ins committed in Johor, Perak and Kuala Lumpur.

Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the suspects, who had previous criminal records were remanded until Nov 26.

“Initial police investigations revealed the suspects were part of a syndicate which was involved in car-jacking and house break-ins,” he told reporters at the Johor police contingent headquarters here yesterday.

In a separate development, Mohd Mokhtar said police had seized 5,675 gambling machines and RM198,417 from January to Nov 19 this year. — Bernama
