MIRI: Some 350 people are expected to join the Special Olympics Sunset Walkathon at Miri Marriott Resort & Spa parking bay tomorrow, starting 4pm.

Organized by Special Olympics Miri Chapter and supported by Miri Marriott Resort & Spa, the second edition is a major fund raiser for the chapter’s year round training and competitions locally and abroad.

Speaking to a press conference yesterday, organising chairman Lisa Chai said nearly RM20,000 had already been raised.

“The money collected will be used to fund the expenses of a special swimmer and his coach to compete in Los Angeles, USA.

“Moreover, it is part of our effort to give the special trainees the opportunity to compete and to prove that they can do as anyone else,” she said.

End of last month, three athletes from SKM Luak who represented Malaysia at the Special Olympic in Macau brought home three gold, one silver and one bronze medals in the Track & Field event.

Apart from promoting a good cause, Chai said 20 sets of lucky draw including free stay vouchers, buffet dinner, Sunday brunch and spa treatment would be part of the attraction of the sunset walkathon.
