Three killed, 11 injured in coal mine explosion in Sarawak

KUCHING: Three people died and 11 others were injured in an explosion at a coal mine in Selantik, Sri Aman, about 130km from here, today.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director (Operations), Farhan Sufyan Borhan, said the incident occurred at 11am and the cause of the explosion was still being determined.

He said the victims who were killed had been taken to the Sri Aman Hospital, about 194km from here, while six of the injured had been referred to the Serian Hospital, about 60km from here and the other six victims were taken to the
Sarawak General Hospital, here.

The identity of the victims had yet to be identified but Bernama was made to understand that they were foreign workers. -Bernama
