KUALA LUMPUR: Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah has congratulated national football legend, Datuk Soh Chin Aun over his induction into the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Hall of Fame.

“Congrats, Dato Soh Chin Aun, Malaysia is proud of you,” Tengku Abdullah, who is also Tengku Mahkota Pahang, tweeted.

Nicknamed ‘Towkay’ (Boss), Soh was renowned for being in the heart of the Malaysian team defence, alongside Datuk Santokh Singh during the country’s golden era in the 70s and early 80s.

He was the youngest member of the Malaysian national team which played an Olympic qualifying match against the Korea Republic in 1971, besides appearing at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games, and having captained Malaysia during the qualifiers for the 1980 Moscow Olympics.

Melaka-born Soh enjoyed a successful two-decade career as a footballer, continuing later to serve the game he loves the most in different capacities. — Bernama
