KAPIT: The headmaster of SK Nanga Bawai, a rural primary school along Sungai Baleh, highlighted that the school lacked clean water supply.

Speaking at the ‘Membara Tema Jasa Mu Dikenang’ programme organised by the Special Affairs Department (Jasa) at the school which coincided with its Annual Excellence Award cum Mini Convocation ceremony for pre-school pupils, Jacques Amot Antagau also said the access road to the school was in dire need of repair.

He thus called on the government to tar seal the road for the safety of the pupils and their parents who frequently used the road.

“One of the major problems of the school is the lack of water supply and we depend on rain water for our daily needs. We hope that the relevant government agencies and elected people’s representatives can come in to solve our water woes,” he said.

On a separate matter, he called on parents to monitor their children’s studies especially when they enter secondary school.

“Many children perform well in primary school but when they are in secondary school their performance drops and this is where parents can come in to ensure that their children concentrate on their studies,” he advised.

Officiating at the programme was Jasa liaison officer Jennifer Jantai, who said among others, the programme was to commemorate and recognise the service and contributions of retired government civil servants and war veterans to the sovereignty and solidarity of the country.

She thanked the school management of SK Nanga Bawai for co-hosting the programme.

Also present at the function were another Jasa officer Alberto, members of Women Bureau of PRS Baleh, teachers and parents.
