SINGAPORE: The Philippines recovered from a goal down to defeat Laos with 4-1 win in the opening of the Group A of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2014 at the My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi, Vietnam, yesterday.
The comfortable win propelled the Philippines into the group standing while Indonesia and host Vietnam had to be satisfied with the 2-2 draw in another match at the same venue.
Philippines will meet Indonesia while Vietnam will take on Laos in the second match on Tuesday,
The top two teams after a one round league will qualify for the cross-over semi finals.
Singapore hosts the Group B matches involving Malaysia, Myanmar, three times champion Thailand and four times champion Singapore. The opening of the group B matches between Malaysia and Myanmar, Singapore and Thailand will be held here today. — Bernama
