LABUAN: Labuan hospital has recorded eleven cases of dengue fever so far this year, a decline from 14 cases recorded throughout last year.
Labuan Health Department director Dr Ismail Ali said daily routine checks were carried in eateries and housing estates to ensure the absence of mosquitoes’ breeding grounds and to check on potential breeding sites.
“Despite the decline of only three cases, with no death reported, the dengue outbreak must be contained and controlled with the cooperation from the people,” he said.
He said the state of dengue in Labuan had yet to reach endemic level and was still under control.
Dr Ismail also disclosed there were no cases of water-borne diseases like cholera and malaria recorded so far this year.
He advised the public to seek treatment at the nearest clinic or hospital immediately if they experienced early signs of dengue.
Health Ministry director-general Datuk Seri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah was reported as saying the death toll due to dengue recorded throughout the country was at 169 from Jan to Nov this year, with an increase of 168 per cent from 68 deaths in the same period of last year.
From Jan until Nov 8, a total of 88,806 cases were reported, a 185 per cent increase from the same period last year. -Bernama
