Moderate earthquake hits Northern Sumatra, Indonesia

KUALA LUMPUR: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.1 on Richter scale hit Northern Sumatra, Indonesia at 11.30 pm last night.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department, in a statement, said that the quake’s epicentre was 35km northeast of Simeulue, Indonesia and 509km southwest of Lumut, Perak.

However, no tsunami threat was reported, it said. — BERNAMA
