6.8-magnitude quake in eastern Indonesia, no tsunami warning

JAKARTA: A powerful 6.8-magnitude earthquake rocked eastern Indonesia on Wednesday (Nov 26), the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said, but no tsunami warning was issued.

The quake struck at a depth of 41km under the Molucca Sea, 161km northwest of the city of Kota Ternate, the USGS said.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no threat of a tsunami and local authorities did not issue an alert. The USGS originally put the magnitude at 7.0. – AFP
