SIBU: Rejang Taekwondo Club (RTC) are sending six of its best fighters to the 4th TM (WTF)-NSC- MILO Inter-Club taekwondo championship in Kota Kinabalu from Nov 27-30.
They are Lau Yih Heng, Annie Lau Yih Jiun, Tie Sing Da, Wong Lie Ho, Tie Ton Siong and Mohd Effendy Tai.
RTC chief coach Thomas Tang revealed that the six were all gold medalists in the 4th Sarawak state taekwondo championship held in Kuching last August.
“I believe we can come back with at least two gold medals,” he said.
Yih Heng will compete in the Boy’s 12-14 years light weight category and Annie in the Girl’s 12-14 years flyweight.
Sing Da, Lie Ho, Ton Siong and Effendy will vie in the Boy’s 15-17 years feather weight, light weight, welter weight and middle weight categories respectively.
With the exception of Yih Heng and Annie, the rest will also compete in the Men’s Open.
Tang is expecting some 800 exponents from throughout the country to take part in the competition.
The team manager is Albert Wong while the coach is Tie Tong Hung. The team will leave for Kuching on Nov 27 to join the rest of the state squad before flying to Kota Kinabalu.
Meanwhile, Sri Sibu Taekwondo Club (SSTC) are also sending five exponents to the championship.
They are Cynthia Li Yong Ci (Open and Girl’s 12-14 welterweight), Caren Li Yong Ning (junior cadet), Christine Li Ying Zhen (Girl’s 9-11 super cadet), Shu Seo Hie (Open and heavyweight) and Licky Donny Ling (Boy’s 12-14 junior cadet)
They will be led by team manager Shirley Wong and coach Li Jin Voon.
