Bosses pay the price for failing to pay minimum basic salary

SANDAKAN: Two employers here have been fined by the Magistrate’s Court for failing to respectively pay one of their workers the minimum basic salary, as required under the Minimum Wages Order 2012.

Sabah Labour Department principal assistant director (Enforcement) Othman Abdullah said the manufacturing company directors aged 50 and 60, respectively pleaded guilty to the charge on Monday, and fined RM4,000 each.

The charge carries a fine of not more than RM10,000 for each worker, he said in a statement here yesterday.

He said the department is serious in enforcing the National Wages Consultative Act 2011 and Minimum Wages Order 2012 to ensure that the rights and welfare of workers are safeguarded.

He also disclosed that some employers were being investigated and would be taken action against if found to have violated the law. — Bernama
