KUCHING: Former Bandar Kuching Member of Parliament (MP) Sim Kwang Yang passed away early this morning.
Friends said the 66-year-old died in his sleep.
He will be cremated tomorrow afternoon at the Nirvana Memorial Park in Selangor.
Sim was first elected MP in 1982 and he would hold the seat until 1995.
Democratic Action Party (DAP) leader Lim Kit Siang said Sim was among the first young Sarawakians to join the party when DAP Sarawak was formed in 1978.
“Sim left footprints in S’wak/M’sian politics. His heart always with underdog regardless of origin. Pioneer in DAP reach-out to longhouses. RIP,” he said in a tweet.
