KUCH I NG : Mo r e p r i z e s , including cash, will be offered in the next edition of the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) bowling tournament. Organising chairman Paul Akiu Bandat said Public Health Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil has promised more lucrative prizes for next year. Tournament patron Dr Jerip, he added, was pleased with the response to this year’s event and believed more teams will turn up if there were more attractive prizes. In the inaugural tournament, champions President Padawan walked away with the Datuk Dr Jerip Challenge Trophy. Penrissen Youth fi nished second while Team President, led by DBNA president Datu Ik Pahon Joyik, was third. “We also offer cash prize of RM300 for the fi rst perfect game scorer, but no one struck a perfect game during the tournament,” Paul quipped.

The tournament was aimed at introducing bowling to the Bidayuh community. “All these while, most, if not all, Bidayuh community think that bowling is a sport only for the urbanites or for the Chinese and Malays,” he explained. DBNA Youth and Sports, which organised the event, hoped to make this tournament an annual event. The 2015 tournament is expected to be held in September, which will coincide with DBNA’s 60th Diamond Jubilee Anniversary. The DBNA bowling tournament is open to all Bidayuh social, c ommu n i t y a nd bu s i ne s s organisations as well as individuals in Sarawak. Each team comprises four members including at least one woman.
