Miri firemen at the scene of the gas explosion at a construction site, ready with their safety gear.
MIRI: Workers of a construction site were awakened by the explosion of an underground gas pipe at Jalan Kelinai, Pujut 7 here, in the wee hours of yesterday.
According to sources, in the explosion around 4am, flames were seen shooting up to 10 metres high.
Firemen from Miri Fire Station responded to a distress call from the public and succeeded in dowsing the flames around 5am.
No injuries or fatality were reported in the incident as it ensued nearby a construction site.
According to one of the construction workers met by The Borneo Post at the scene, they were all jolted from sleep by the explosion.
“We rushed out of our quarters to inspect and were stunned to see flames coming out from underground,” said the worker who wished to be anonymous.
