KUALA LUMPUR: Police have foiled attempts to smuggle various types of drugs weighing 35.2kg worth RM7 million via courier and air cargo in two raids.
Bukit Aman director of Narcotics CID Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said no arrests were made and police were trying to identify the recipient of the drugs.
“The Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (Sting) raided a courier services company in Petaling Jaya at 5.30pm on Nov 19 and seized 2.3kg methamphetamine worth about RM400,000.
“All the drugs were found in six boxes containing electrical equipment such as heaters, cookers and kettles sent from China using a courier service company,” he told at press conference at Federal Police Headquaters, Bukit Aman, here, yesterday.
Noor Rashid said the address listed on the six boxes were false.
In the second case, police raided the KL International Airport (KLIA) Cargo Complex at 8.45pm on Nov 25 and seized 32.9kg cocaine worth RM6.5 million in six black bags.
The six black bags declared as personal items were delivered via Egypt Air flight from Abuja (Nigeria) to Cairo (Egypt) and then to KLIA.
“We are monitoring drug syndicate members in this country. The police success is due to intelligence work and public information,” he added. — Bernama
