BINTULU: Safety campaigns at petrol stations will be intensified to make customers and operators more aware of the importance of observing safety measures.

Deputy state director of the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (MDTCC) Abdul Hafidz A Rahim said this is to prevent untoward accidents from occurring at petrol stations.

He explained that though Petronas, Shell and Petron petrol stations implemented their own security measures, the ministry had to step in as it did not want to compromise on negligence.

Hafidz was met here yesterday during the launching of the safety campaign at the Petronas Golden Mileage Enterprise station along Jalan Tun Hussien Onn here organised by its branch office in collaboration with Petronas Dagangan Sdn Bhd.

With such campaign, he hoped the public would be more aware of safety and hazards at petrol stations.

“Warning signs should be placed at petrol stations so that people will be aware of the safety measures and I hope the public will give extra attention to these signs.

“We don’t want bad incidents occurring at petrol stations and station operators should know and comply with all the safety measures,” he stressed.

Also present were Bintulu MDTCC chief Robin Emerson Empurai and station operator Sim Siam Hong.
