SIBU: The sport of muaythai is set to grow even further in Sibu with a nation-wide competition next year. Sibu Municipal Council deputy chairman Dato Andrew Wong believes staging such a major event beats organising small fi ghts. “We want to bring MuayThai competitions up to another level here in Sarawak,” he said after the full council meeting here on Wednesday. He added that Kelab Muay Thai Elit Sibu would aggressively promote the sport here. He fur ther r evea led that muaythai would be among the unique events planned for Visit Sibu Year 2016. Me a nwh i l e , a mu ay t h a i tournament will be held this evening from 6.30pm at Sibu Town Square. Six pro fighters from as far as Thailand will be among the participants. “This will be the very fi rst time, whereby they gather together muaythai fi ghts using LED panel technology. “Spectators will be able to see from all sides on LED panel as a close-up. Therefore, we are hoping to do the same for the nation-wide competition next year,” Wong said. This evening’s event would serve as a warm-up to the Borneo Talent Awards (BTA).
