SK Bombalai is top in UPSR

TAWAU: SK Bombalai here was the state’s top achieving school in Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) 2014 with 96.49 per cent passes (school average grade 1.57).

Twelve pupils of the school scored 5As this year compared to only eight last year, and with a 88.61 per cent passing rate. A total of 57 candidates sat for the examination this year.

SK Pasir Putih was ranked seventh in Sabah with 86.36 per cent passes (school average grade 1.88). SK Holy Trinity was in ninth place with 82.96 per cent passes (school average grade 1.94) while SK Bahagia was in tenth place with 87.50 per cent passes (school average grade 1.95).

The other primary schools listed in the top ten list were SK Sri Gaya (second), SK St Monica (third), SK St Francis Convent (fourth), SK St Joseph (fifth), SK Mutiara (sixth) and SK St Agnes (Kota Kinabalu).

For Chinese primary schools (SJKC), SJKC Yuk Chin was ranked seventh with 54.32 per cent passes (school average grade 2.35) and SJKC Sin Hwa in eighth place with 45.90 per cent passes (school average grade 2.37).

Of the 278 candidates from SJKC Yuk Chin who sat for the examination this year, only 151 pupils passed while seven scored 7As. The school achieved 51.45 per cent passes (school average grade 2.31) with 11 scoring 7As last year.

Of the total 183 candidates from SJKC Sin Hwa who sat for the examination this year, only 84 pupils passed while two scored 7As.

The school achieved 57.07 per cent passes (school average grade 2.29) with ten scoring 7As last year.

The two top scorers from SJKC Sin Hwa were Angela Hiew Jia Yee and Tan Min, while Christy Wong Yoon Xin, Edison Wong Kai Xuan, Kong Pei Ni, Max Chin Wenn Xian, Nureen Natasya Mahyuddin, Voo Zen Yin and Brandon Yee Yung Shuen scored 6As.

Nine students scored 5As. They were Cheong Hao Yi, Chia Shan Yu, Pow Kha Hock, Shelby Ho Yi Cheng, Sim Kuan Ji, Tai Shin Ying, Tay Yi Wey, Calvin Chok Kai Vun and Kuang Xiao Ying.
