DALAT: Kampung Tanam in Dalat will soon have a ‘belanga’ or traditional sago processing hut located by Dalat River.

The cost of construction was allocated by Dalat assemblywoman Datuk Fatimah Abdullah.

“Dalat is known for producing quality sago based products and the essence of traditional sago processing must be preserved. Therefore the construction of this ‘belanga’ is timely,” Fatimah said after performing an earth-breaking ceremony at the site.

The Minister of Welfare, Women and Family Development added that the land to construct the hut was allocated by a villager who lives in front of the plot.

“The ‘belanga’ estimated to cost RM30,000 will be completed within a month,” she said. A retaining wall has been built to prevent erosion.

“The ‘belanga’ will be built on collective effort with villagers helping in the construction,” she said.

At the event, Fatimah presented five bags of rice and daily necessities to five villagers under the Skuad Sayang PBB project.

“This programme aims to ease the burden, especially of single mothers and those in the low income bracket to whom we give food to ease their burdens,” she added.
