NABAWAN: The Magistrate’s Court yesterday fixed December 19 for a decision on the case of a man who was charged with obstructing a forestry officer from carrying out his duty.

Magistrate Ryan Sagirann Rayner Jr set the date after the prosecuting officer called four witnesses to testify against Lantir Bakayas, 57, before closing its case.

Ryan ordered for the submissions to be handed in before December 10 and a reply to be tendered on December 15.

The trial started two days ago and ended yesterday.

Lantir, who was represented by counsel Ram Singh, had allegedly prevented the officer from doing his job at the entrance to Bantu Tunggul Forest Reserve at Kampung Tataluan, in Nabawan around 9.25am on May 16, 2013.

The charge, under Section 31 of the Forest Enactment 1968, is punishable under Section 33 (1) of the same Enactment.

The indictment carries a maximum fine of RM50,000 or a jail term of up to five years, or both, upon conviction.

Lantir was released on RM2,500 bail with two local sureties, pending disposal of the case.
