Gross revenue, number of employees to increase in 4Q14

KUALA LUMPUR: The gross revenue and number of employees for businesses are expected to increase in the fourth quarter of 2014 (Q414) and the confidence indicator is expected to record a positive value at 4.6 per cent, said the Statistics Department’s Business Tendency Statistics 4th Quarter 2014.

In a statement yesterday, the department said the survey showed that the industrial sector expected an increase in the gross revenue (+13.6 per cent) and number of employees (+6.4 per cent) in Q414.

“The electricity and water industry shows the highest positive net balance in terms gross revenue (+45.5 per cent) and number of employees (+27.3 per cent,” it said.

The department said the construction sector expected an increase in gross revenue (+16.2 per cent) in Q414.

However, both the volume and construction activities were expected to decrease (-11.4 per cent, -5.7 per cent), it said.

It said the confidence indicator was also expected to record a negative value of 0.2 per cent.

The Statistics Department said the wholesale and retail trade sector expected decreasing gross revenue (-3.1 per cent).

However, it said, the number of employees was expected to increase (+15.5 per cent) in Q414.

The confidence indicator, however, was expected to be -5.5 per cent, it said.

For the services sector, the Statistics Department said the gross revenue and number of employees were expected to be positive during the reference period as indicated by net balances of 34.6 per cent and 24.8 per cent respectively.

The confidence indicator was expected to be +9.6 per cent, it said.

The survey aims to measure the expected business performance of the Malaysian economic sector for Q414.

The report includes the statistics of current business situation for the third quarter of 2014 and business expectation for Q414. — Bernama
