MIRI: Interhill Group of Companies and its staff have joined the global ‘We Are Here‘ movement created by singer Alicia Keys.

Corporate communications manager Agnes Nyelang said the movement hopes to inspire the people to support 12 non-profit organisations globally.

The organisations are support aid group CARE; Equal Justice Initiative, which combats racial inequity in the criminal justice system; Future Project, which empowers high school students in America; Girl Rising – supporting girls’ education around the world; Keep a Child Alive – helping children affected by HIV and AIDS; Moms Rising – supporting universal pre-kindergarten, maternal leave and tighter gun laws; Oxfam – fighting global poverty; Partners in Health – tackling disease worldwide; Trevor Project – preventing suicide among gay and lesbian youths; Trayvon Martin Foundation – fighting racial profiling; War Child – supporting children in conflict areas; and human rights organisation All Out.

“Our involvement in the movement is through giving awareness to the staff thus to foster the spirit of acknowledgement of what’s happening around us.

“Although it is an international initiative, we hope that some of the pledges will be applied

in our nation, especially involving racial profiling and women’s related pledges for the betterment of the nation,” she said yesterday.

She said Interhill’s participation and support for the ‘We Are Here’ movement would hopefully motivate more Malaysians to raise their voices in support of addressing issues such as discrimination, injustice and poverty across the globe.

“Everyone can raise awareness by posting photos on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram with the #WeAreHere hashtag,” she added.
