Penang mechanic charged with causing woman’s death

GEORGE TOWN: A mechanic pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here yesterday to driving over a woman to intentionally cause her death, last week.

Chow Teik Leong, 53, from Bajan Ajam, Butterworth allegedly caused the death of Lee Seoh Pheng, 47, at the Taman Desa Intan flat at Jalan Thean Teik, Bandar Baru, Air Itam.

He is accused of committing the offence at around 12.40 am on Nov 21, under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code.

Judge Zulhazmi Abdullah denied bail and set Jan 22, 2015 for re mention.

Deputy public prosecutor S. Selvaranjini and Nur Farhana Hashim appeared for the prosecution, while Chow was represented by counsel Datuk Baljit Singh.

Lawyer Muahammad Arif Shaharuddin stood in for Ramkarpal Singh to keep a watching brief for the victim’s family. — Bernama
