SIBU: A rubber estate supervisor was found dead in an estate in Salim Stabau here yesterday morning.
The remains of Wong King Tung, 55, from Wong King Huo Road, was found lying face down in a drain.
Sibu police chief ACP Mohd Kamal Kordi, when contacted yesterday, said the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Initial investigation found several wounds on the deceased’s head. There were also soil and tree leaves on the back of his body.
The acting estate manager lodged a police report at Sibu Jaya police station on Thursday night when he could not find Wong at the estate nor at his house.
Police and K9 Unit found the 4-wheel-drive vehicle driven by Wong abandoned at the roadside in front of the rubber estate when they launched the search operation at 7.30am yesterday.
They forced open the gate at the rubber estate before gaining entry to the crime scene, about 2km away.
Police recovered Wong’s belongings, including a hat, spectacles, one set of dentures, one pair of shoes, a knife, and a cutter.
Wong’s wife, his daughter, and relatives went to the scene yesterday morning.
It was understood that Wong had gone to the estate at 9am on Wednesday for inspection after being told to do so by his company.
His wife said she had called him on Monday night.
Wong’s co-workers claimed they saw him on Tuesday morning, but his wife could not reach him over the phone later in the night.
On Thursday, co-workers asked Wong’s wife on his whereabouts as they did not see him for two days.
As his wife had no idea where her husband had gone, she sought help from the co-workers to look for him.
According to the acting manager, Wong had one Indonesian worker, who had gone missing.
Wong, who had been with the company since 2011, leaves behind his wife and six children.
He used to be a worker for a logging camp.
A post-mortem may be conducted today.
