KUCHING: A body was retrieved from Sarawak River on Thursday evening after the staff of a shipping company at Lorong Sebor here investigated what was a foul stench.

It did not occur to the staff that the floating object was a corpse until some of them managed to take a closer look at what was ‘remains’.

They immediately alerted the authorities including the police, Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and Sarawak General Hospital (SGH). Led by Bomba senior officer (PBK) II Shabudin Abang, rescuers got hold of the decomposed body through a trawler.

The body has yet to be identified, but has been sent to the morgue of SGH for post mortem. Police are investigating the case.
