KUCHING: Members of the public are encouraged to visit the 1Mindef Mini Carnival held by the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) at The Summer Mall today from 10am to 6pm.

Exhibition booths have been up and performances are among the activities lined up for the three-day event which started on Friday.

Mindef secretary-general Dato Sri Dr Ismail Ahmad said the mini carnival is aimed at allowing the public to learn more about Mindef, the Malaysian Army and all other relevant agencies.

“We hope that more people will learn in more detail about the roles and responsibilities of Mindef, particularly the army.

“In addition, the programme is also aimed at inculcating patriotism among the younger generation as they will better understand the sacrifices made to uphold the peace and security of the country,” he said prior to officiating the programme yesterday.

Ismail also encouraged youths interested to join the army to get a better understanding at the programme.

“There is also a booth for job applications.

The youths can come around and have a look and learn how they can make a career in the army.

This is a good opportunity for them,” he pointed out.
