28 motorcycles seized in operation against racing

A total of 28 motorcycles were seized by the police for various offences.

KOTA KINABALU: Seventeen summonses were issued to traffic offenders and 28 motorcycles were seized by the police during Op Samseng Jalanan Bersepadu which was aimed at nabbing illegal car and motorbike racers.

City police chief ACP M. Chandra said 13 male motorcyclists were also arrested and would be charged under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for executing dangerous stunts on their bikes and riding in the opposition direction of traffic.

In addition, 17 spectators, including a woman, who were watching the stunts performed by the motorcyclists at Jalan Kepayan were brought to the traffic police station for documentation.

The operation was carried out at Jalan Lintas, Jalan Kepayan, Jalan Sulaman and in the city from 10am on Saturday till 7am on Sunday.

A total of four officers and 53 personnel from various enforcement agencies were involved in the operation, including Kota Kinabalu Traffic Police Department, Traffic Police Department from Sabah police headquarters, Penampang Traffic Police Department, Papar Traffic Police Department, Tuaran Traffic Police Department and Road Transport Department.

The National Anti-drugs Agency (AADK) also carried out urine tests on 30 people, including a woman, at the traffic police station. All were found to be free of drugs.

Chandra added that the Mobile Card Acceptance Device was used in the operation to check on police summons, driving licence, road tax and vehicle ownership status of motorists.
