G Builders clinch Motorkon Challenge Trophy

KUCHING: G Builders won the Veteran Team Motorkon Challenge Trophy badminton competition at Sarawak Bumiputra Badminton Association hall in Semariang yesterday when they edged Patma A 2-1 in the final.

Lim Poh Chiang and Chua Yam Phuan delivered the first point for G Builders in the first doubles when they defeated Klana Ali Hassan and Kamil Ibrahim 21-17 and 21-10. In the second doubles, G Builders’ Zamahari Eddie and Awang Ahmat lost the first set 18-21 to Tan Huang Hui and Mohd Talip Nuari but recovered to level the score 1-1 by taking the second set 21-11.

Tan and Talip were not ready to give up the fight and they held their opponents to a 17-17 score before losing 17-21 in the decider.

G Builders qualified for the final when they beat Gemilang 2-0 while Patma A also beat Polis 2-0 in the semi-finals.

In the preliminary round, G Builders won all their matches to top Group A with four points while Patma A won three matches to collect six points and top Group C. The champions received the challenge trophy and RM2,000 while the runners-up collected RM1,000.

Meanwhile, losing semi-finalists Polis and Gemilang each received RM400 as joint third in the competition.

Organised by Sarawak Bumiputra Badminton Association (PBBS) from Nov 28-30, the main objective of the competition was to give veteran shuttlers the chance to play in a competitive event and enhance ties among old friends.

Also taking part in the inaugural competition were Kaspa A, Kaspa B, Sarakup Siol, Patma B, KBS Lundu and Rimo.

Motorkon Sdn Bhd director Julia Shukri gave away the prizes while PBBS deputy president Saifulbahari Shukri and treasurer Brahim Putit were also present.
