TAMPIN: Plantation companies have been lauded for providing land for the construction of Tamil schools (SJKT).

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam said this would enable Indian children the opportunity to continue their education.

“Many Indians have migrated to towns and the outskirt leaving the old schools deserted.

“Fortunately, there are plantation companies willing to provide land for new schools,” he told reporters after the foundation stone laying ceremony of SJKT Ladang Regent, Gemenceh, yesterday.

Ladang Regent has only 10 Indian families as the others had moved to Gemencheh, Gemas and Tampin, leaving SJKT Ladang Regent with a handful of students.

Subramaniam, who is also MIC deputy president, said IOI Plantation Bhd had provided 1.215 hectare land for the construction of SJKT Ladang Regent.

SJKT Ladang Regent costing RM8.5 million will be build under the Special Stimulus Package 2012 and is scheduled for completion in August 2016.

The school will have two building blocks, six classrooms and facilities such as computer labs, library, cafeteria and hall. — Bernama
