7.8 mln cooperative members to get free education on financial management

KOTA KINABALU: Some 7.8 million members of more than 10,000 cooperatives nationwide will now be able to get free education and counselling on financial management from the Credit Counseling And Debt Management Agency (AKPK).

This is possible following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between AKPK, an agency under Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), and the Cooperative Commission of Malaysia (CCM) here yesterday.

Through the MoU, CCM will identify cooperative members who require education and counselling on financial management while AKPK will provide experts for the service.

AKPK’s services include assisting members to restructure their debt with cooperative bodies, if any, to ensure they are not burdened by repayment to their cooperatives.

“We will talk to cooperative members on the importance of making plans in financial management.

“We will also hold a workshop and explain about efficient financial management and controlling expenditure,” said AKPK chief executive officer Azaddin Ngah Tasir.

Azaddin was speaking to Bernama after he signed the

MoU on behalf of AKPK, while CCM was represented by its executive chairman Datuk Nik Ali Mat Yunus. — Bernama
