GOPENG: The maximum amount under the Rural Economic Financing Scheme (SPED) will be raised to RM1 million from RM500,000 from next year.

Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said this was to encourage rural communities to venture into the entrepreneurship sector and boost their economy.

“We encourage the rural communities to get financial aid as they face constraints in obtaining financing,” he told reporters after opening the Central Zone Rural Entrepreneurs Mini Carnival (KUD) at the Gopeng Rural Transformation Centre here yesterday.

SPED was set up to boost the number of rural Bumiputera entrepreneurs in all viable and legal economic sectors. — Bernama
