KUCHING: UCSI University students from its Hotel Management and Culinary Arts and Leisure Management programmes organised the 2nd Korean Night 2014 at The Quad Restaurant, UCSI University Sarawak campus recently.

A UCSI press statement said the main objective of the event was to promote Korean cuisine, culture and music among locals.

The event concluded with entertaining performances including a K-pop dance, Korean traditional dance, singing performance and a mini Korean drama.

As part of the event awareness and publicity, a Korean showcase was held on Nov 22 to 23 at Boulevard shopping mall which featured traditional dance, henna art, a language booth, food and mock-tail tasting, lucky draws and games culminating in the first ever UCSI Korean flash mob.

“As a K-pop fan, I am glad that UCSI organised the Korean showcase and Korean night. We learnt a lot from the planning, organising, coordinating, and controlling process.

“This experience has enhanced our skills to be future leaders,” said a hotel management student Chong Jia Xin.

The event also serves as a platform for students to apply theoretical knowledge to real life situations through organising in tandem with UCSI’s praxis® approach.

“Students were exposed to the critical skills and challenges in managing banquet events which prepared them to face the working world.

“I am glad that the students showed great effort and teamwork,” according to project director cum lecturer Ting Hui Bun.

Among the sponsors of the event were HD Image Enterprise, Chan Dusun and Co. Advocates, Chan Khoon Hua, Hock Kui Development, Poh Lo Chew Development, Hilton Hotel, 360 Xpress Hotel, Plaza Merdeka, Cloud 99, F&N and many individual sponsors.

UCSI University was appointed one of the first leading private universities in South East Asia by Korea Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corporation to promote Korean culture, food and music in Malaysia through their education programmes.
