PUTRAJAYA: A total of 190 deaths were recorded in some 98,383 dengue cases between January and Dec 7, this year, making it the highest number of casualties recorded in a single year, as compared to statistics gathered over the past few years.

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases at 48,691, or almost half of all reported cases, according to Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.

“Selangor also recorded the highest number of deaths with 71 cases, or 37 per cent of total deaths recorded in the country,” he said during a press conference here yesterday.

He said his ministry held a discussion with the Selangor Government yesterday, which was attended by Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali to enable collaboration between the two parties to bring the situation under control.

Among suggestions tabled included requesting the state government, through its local councils to focus on solid waste management and keeping the surroundings clean, especially at construction sites and open spaces, added Dr Subramaniam. — Bernama
