KUCHING: The Lions Clubs of Kuching-Kota Samarahan will organise a Christmas Colouring Contest for primary school children tomorrow.
The competition, co-organised by Proaktif Tutition Centre, will see 150 pupils ‘colouring’ their way to win top prizes at the Boulevard Shopping Mall here.
The participating schools are SJK Chung Hua No 1, 2, 4, 6 and Mile 4 ½ and Mile 10 schools, SK St Teresa, SK St Mary, SJKC Sam Hap Hin and SK St Paul.
According to club president Bernard Ting, there will be two categories; namely Category A for those aged six to nine which has drawn 78 participants, and Category B (aged 10-12) with 72 contestants.
“The objectives of running this competition are to cultivate a passion for arts and drawing in these children, as well as to reach out to the primary schools and the local community,” he said in a media statement yesterday.
Ting said students should be given the opportunity to be occupied with activities that would bring out the best in them, citing colouring and drawing competitions as examples.
“Activities such as this will prevent students from mixing with questionable characters like drug addicts and hooligans.”
The competition will run from 2pm to around 4pm. Senator Prof Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian will officiate at the closing and give away the prizes at 4.30pm.
Meanwhile, organising chairman Jamex Voon of Proaktif Tutition Centre said the organisers had also prepared a free health screening for parents and guardians accompanying the children, as well as other visitors.
“There will also be a lucky draw for all participants. We would like to thank the sponsors for their generosity in ensuring the success of the competition.”
