KOTA KINABALU: A father of nine will spend the next seven months in prison for intimidating his ex-wife.

Mumin Abd Rashid, 43, when produced before magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus, pleaded guilty to the offence committed at an unnumbered house at Kampung Likas on Dec 4 at 6.15am.

Mumin intimidated his 47-year-old wife, Nuridah Sallih, an offence under section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum prison term of seven years, a fine, or both.

The facts of the case stated that on that day at 1.25pm, a police report was made by the complainant stating that her husband had beaten her.

Investigations by the police revealed that Mumin and Nuridah were arguing over family issues when Mumin took a parang and slammed it on a stove before telling Nuraidah that he would not divorce her, and adding that he intended to kill her.

During mitigation, Mumin told the court to give him a lighter sentence and spare him any jail term as he had to take care of his children.

However, prosecuting officer Inspector Azaman Hamat urged the court to mete out a deterrent sentence as a means to educate Mumin.
