Media’s role at BIMP-EAGA Friendship Games

LABUAN: The esprit de corps at the five-day 8th BIMP-EAGA Friendship Games which ended on Wednesday was not only seen among the participants but notably among the media people too.

The media centre was set up to facilitate the covering of the Games by local and foreign journalists to ensure smooth flow of information and news. It was located at Wisma Perbadanan Labuan, here, and operated jointly by Radio Malaysia Labuan (RML), the Information Department and Labuan Media Movement Association (LMMA).

RML supervisor who spearheaded the centre, Wahida Abdullah, said the close cooperation among the media representatives and event officials of each contingent had enabled smooth dissemination of accurate information and results. LMMA president Jainuddin Jimin said the wide coverage of the Games had gained positve feedback, especially from people in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.

The Games was for first time hosted by Labuan, a BIMP-EAGA member, which saw 1,026 participants and officials from four countries, namely Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines involved in 10 events. — Bernama
