Murder accused to know fate on Jan 19

KOTA KINABALU: The High Court here yesterday fixed Jan 19 next year to deliver its decision on a case involving a Filipino charged with killing two women.

Justice Ravinthran Paramaguru set the date to give his verdict on Juli Kanoi, 37, after the defence called two witnesses and closed the case yesterday.

The accused, who was defended by counsel Nelson W Angang and Chua Kuan E, was alleged to have killed the two women on Aug 27, 2012 at 7pm in front of a house at Kampung Cenderakaih, Luyang here.

It was learnt that the accused and the two victims were staying under one roof.

The offence was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Chow Siang Kong prosecuted.

Meanwhile, in another High Court, a teenage boy charged with killing his colleague will stand trial on Jan 15 – 18, next year.

The juvenile, who was brought before Justice Stephen Chung, faces a charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code which provides for the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

The accused, who was a restaurant worker at that time, was alleged to have murdered his 20-year-old workmate in a house at Lorong 13 of Kampung Sembulan here at 4.36am on May 21, 2013.

DPP Afzan Abd Kahar appeared for the prosecution while the boy was represented by counsel Ram Singh, Rizwandean Bukhari M Borhan and Yusri Pungut.

In a separate case, a man will be tried on January 21 next year for allegedly trafficking in 898 grams of cannabis. Wazir Rahman Nurazwan was caught for allegedly trafficking in the drugs at a room of an apartment at Jalan Papar at about 3.15pm on July 21. He was charged under Section 39B (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides for the mandatory death sentence upon conviction. The boy and Wazir were ordered to be further held in custody, pending disposal of their cases.
