LABUAN: The Youth and Sports Ministry has proposed that University Malaysia Sabah Labuan International Campus introduce an oil and gas engineering faculty to help youths keen to secure employment in the oil and gas sector.

Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said efforts were ongoing to propose more youth upskilling programmes be introduced at skills training institutions like vocational colleges and industrial institutions.

Malaysian youths should tap into the booming oil and gas sector and not be mere observers, he told a press conference after an official visit to Labuan Sports Complex here yesterday.

“I have been briefed by the Member of Parliament for Labuan on the development of the oil and gas sector in Labuan, but locals, especially youths, are only sitting on the fence,” he said.

Khairy said the government was aware of the positive development of the energy sector and related industries, such as shipping and oil and gas services in Labuan. — Bernama
