KOTA KINABALU: Ten individuals have been given a week to hand over to the police what is believed to be imitation firearms in their possession.

Kota Kinabalu District police chief ACP M Chandra said the individuals were believed to be around here and Tuaran and Kota Marudu districts.

“They can contact ASP Hamizi Halim at 019-8998671 or 088-221191 Hotline to surrender the fake firearms,” he told reporters here yesterday.

On Nov 29 Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman announced the seizure of 31 imitation firearms of various types by Sabah police after arresting a 30-year-old local man.

The man was believed to have bought the firearms from a Chinese national dubbed the ‘boss’ before selling them to customers who are keen on possessing imitation firearms.

Meanwhile, Chandra said two individuals, aged 32 and 42, voluntarily came to the Kota Kinabalu district police headquarters to surrender the imitation firearms in their possession since Dec 2.

An imitation weapon was also confiscated by police in a raid in a residential area in Telipok around 11.30 pm on Dec 3 and a 34-year-old man, who tested positive for drugs, was detained, he said. — Bernama
