Crowd flocks to Sibu’s Christmas Wonderland

SIBU: ‘Tis the season to be jolly as Sibu Town Square is again turned into a Christmas Wonderland with 21 giant X’mas trees rising to the spirit of a magical Yuletide.

In the sparkle of twinkling lights, the decoration and design of the evergreen trees this year are simply awesome with fresh ideas on Christmas trees deco by the participating NGOs.

The participating NGOs include the Junior Chamber Internationals (JCI), Saberkas and Lion Clubs, to name a few prominent ones.

This has added colour to the festive mood in the air, and people from neighbouring towns are flooding in to wander in the park, videotaping and taking photographs of the magnificent scene.

Even foreign tourists will not miss it as the word is spreading as quickly as their arrival.

The Yuletide season has become one of the major events in which the most photographs are taken.

Just as the event was launched by Sibu Municipal Council Chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King last night, the magical Christmas Wonderland has already made it into Facebook, receiving countless “likes” from people around the world.

The council invites different organisations to design the Christmas trees annually, and this year they no doubt pulled in NGOs perched on a creative branch.

Marks are given for creativity, aesthetics, day view, night view and durability in the Christmas Tree Design Competition.

The result and prize-giving ceremony for the Christmas Tree Design Competition will be held during the New Year Countdown.

The 21 Christmas trees will hence be on display until Dec 31.
