TAWAU: An infant girl was killed when the Mitsubishi Pajero vehicle she was travelling in with her family went off the road at Mile 30 Kalabakan-Maliau Basin Road on Saturday.
District police chief ACP Awang Besar Dullah said the one-year-old victim, identified as Victoria Chau Wei Ya, died due to severe head injury.
He said a six-year-old boy was also reported to have sustained serious injuries while five others, including two boys, suffered only light injuries in the road mishap that occurred about 6 pm.
Awang said the deceased was held by her mother sitting in the front passenger seat while the photographer father drove the car. The family members were on their way to Tawau from Kota Kinabalu when the driver lost control of the car and entered the opposite side of the road.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
