KAPIT: Hulu Rajang MP Wilson Ugak hopes that a radio programme scheduled to be on air on Christmas Day would make the celebration even merrier for the folk here this year.

The recording of ‘Pentas Khas Krismas Sibu FM’ was held at Kapit Town Square last

Saturday night, which saw a participation of close to 4,000 people including those from outside the division.

“The government, through RTM Sibu, organised the programme with the hope of inculcating friendship in every Malaysian, irrespective of race, religion and culture.

“I believe that we should all come together as one under the spirit of 1Malaysia,” he said.

The choice of the square here as venue for Pentas Khas Krismas Sibu FM this year, noted Ugak, could not be more apt.

“Kapit is a very beautiful town and is home to more than 30 different ethnic groups, with diverse traditional practices and religious beliefs.

“From the time of our ancestors, this land has always seen peace and harmony among its people.

“Our respect and tolerance for one another set a perfect example of what unity and harmony should be all about.

“Thus, I call on all responsible citizens to continue safeguarding the sanctity of the peace that we have been enjoying for years.

“Together, we must reject all negative elements that could ruin the very essence of our social harmony,” he stressed.

On celebrating Christmas, Ugak reminded all to observe the occasion as a commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ.

“It is alright to celebrate, but do it responsibly. Never tarnish Christmas with alcohol abuse,” he advised, adding in jest: “If you’re drunk, then how could you pray to Christ for guidance and blessings?”

The MP also delivered his Christmas and New Year wishes during the recorded broadcast.

Meanwhile RTM Sibu regional manager Albert Mentri Tidin said the objective of Pentas

Khas Krismas Sibu FM was to spread Yuletide joy to local Christians.

“This is also part of RTM Sibu’s corporate social responsibility in bringing the station closer to their clients,” he said, adding that listeners could catch the show via Kuching FM and Sibu FM.

Kapit Resident Fedrick John George and his deputy Zul Usop were among the crowds at the Saturday night pre-recorded event, which also saw local artists such as Wilfred Vincent Ragam, Urai, Eddie Kuing, The Crew Band, Julita James, Lucy M, Ranee Pat and Zasia performing.
