SIBU: A closed-door dialogue between state Barisan Nasional (BN) Backbenchers Club (BNBBC), all political secretaries to the chief minister, and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has been planned for next month.

BNBBC chairman Abdullah Saidol disclosed that MACC had been notified and would prepare the module and content of the proposed meet-up.

Speaking on behalf of the BNBBC, Abdullah hinted after the dialogue, they might have another programme to officially take their pledge of integrity. He said they were neither forced nor instructed to do so, but would volunteer themselves.

“The Chief Minister has instructed me as, the chairman of BNBBC, to organise a closed-door dialogue with all BNBBC’s YBs and political secretaries with MACC,” he told reporters on Sunday.

He was asked to clarify a point in his speech at Sibu Melanau Association’s (PMS) dinner cum Awards Night here earlier. Asked if a code of conduct would be formulated after the dialogue, he replied: “Not sure about that as we have not talked about that yet. But probably from this meeting with MACC, we will better understand how MACC works and, perhaps, other matters related to the dos and don’ts. The essence of integrity as what the Chief Minister wants.”

Abdullah, who is chief political secretary to the chief minister, stressed that the Chief Minister was serious about integrity and wanted all people’s representatives, especially BNBBC members to understand what he meant by integrity.

The Chief Minister wanted all people’s representatives to keep their eyes and ears opened to any illegal activity such as mismanagement and poor enforcement, he said.

“He wants BNBBC to be proactive in this as he wants to see action and not just remain political rhetoric alone. This shows how serious our Chief Minister is when it comes to integrity,” added Abdullah, who is Semop assemblyman.

On another matter, Abdullah voiced concern over the misuse of social media such as Facebook by certain people.

“People must be responsible in the use of social media and must not post anything that can create uneasiness among the people of different backgrounds,” he said.

PMS chairman Drahman Jabar also spoke at the function.

Study incentives were given to students who excelled in UPSR, PMR and SPM exams.

Among those present were Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee, Temenggong Datuk Wan Hamid Edruce, political secretary to the chief minister Romeo Christopher Tegong and SUPP Bawang Assan chairman Robert Lau Hui Yew.
