SEPANG: The Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) foiled an attempt to smuggle 6.84kg of the drug Methamphetamine worth almost RM1.3 million by two foreign drug mules in two separate cases on Dec 7 and Dec 14.
KLIA Customs director Datuk Chik Omar Chik Lim told a media conference here yesterday that an Australian woman and an Indian man believed to be drug mules had been arrested in connection to the cases.
In the first case, the Australian woman, aged 51, was detained at the KLIA arrival hall after arriving from Shanghai on Dec 7 after customs detected a suspicious scanned image in her luggage.
He said checks into the luggage found a parcel containing drugs weighing 1.5kg and worth RM285,000.
In the second case, the Indian male national, aged 27, who was on a flight arriving from Chennai, India was detained at the KLIA arrival hall at 6.30pm yesterday after a scanning of his baggage found drugs weighing 5.34kg and worth RM1,014,600.
“Preliminary investigations revealed the suspect is a student who had entered the country three times,” he said.
Chik Omar said the two suspects used the same modus operandi of hiding the drugs in a special compartment in their luggage.
The two had been detained for investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, he said. — Bernama
