KUCHING: A school holiday outing turned into tragedy when a Form 4 student drowned while swimming in Sungai Rayu at Matang Wildlife Centre, Jalan Matang here, yesterday.
Personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) found the body of the
16-year-old victim Raisma Anil Safawi in the bed of the river, which was about 15-foot deep around 5.45pm.
Earlier, the victim from Telaga Air had gone swimming in the river with his friends and siblings.
An ambulance sent the body to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for a post-mortem.
