SIBU: Solid Gym in Tapang Timur Road here staged its second bench press competition last Sunday.
Alvin Wong won the over 80kg Open category with a best attempt of 170kg.
Ting Zhi Ming and Kong Kuok Wei finished runner-up and third respectively.
For 80kg and below lifters, Kevin Chung beat Sylvester Kong Sien Yong and Law Pik Lee into second and third spots.
Solid Gym members competed in three categories. Champions in the below 70kg, 70-80kg and over 80kg categories were Lesli Lau, Farrokh Ibtisam Ting and Jacky Foo Bai Xiang respectively.
The winners received their prizes from Sibu Municipal Council deputy chairman Dato Andrew Wong.
Also present were Solid Gym’s co-owners Lau Kah Yii, Wesley Tiong and Allen Lee.
Meanwhile, Lau was happy that the response was slightly better than last year’s inaugural event.
“Following popular requests, we’ve decided to make it our annual affair,” he said.
Solid Gym also hosted the annual arm-wrestling competition and Mr Fitness contest.
