Floating market vendors compete in decorating Tanggui

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: A total of 150 traditional floating market traders attended a tanggui decorating contest in Martapura River Siring (embankment) on Jalan Piere Tendean, Tuesday (16/12).

According to Antaranews, The merchant, all women, were wearing Tanggui (a type of wide head covering made of leaf) with decoration diverse, including ornaments of fabric sasirangan.

South Kalimantan Youth, Sports, Culture, and Tourism Agency (Disporbudpar) held the race in series of Floating Market Cultural Festival 2015.

Head of Disporbudpar Mohandas said the 2015 Floating Market Festival held on December 16 to 19 to display a variety of arts, culture, and show typical of the region. “Including the culture of wearing tanggui,” he said.

As the floating market is the hallmark of a global attractions, so making colorful Tanggui used by the merchant considered to be a beauty.

“It could be an attraction itself, because floating market not only known nationally, but globally as a unique tourist attraction in Indonesia,” explained Mohandas.
