Strong North-easterly winds, rough seas expected to continue until Thursday

KUALA LUMPUR: The strong North-easterly second category winds and rough seas in Labuan and Miri are expected to continue until Thursday.

The Meteorological Department in a statement today, warned the winds with a speed ranging from 40 to 60km per hour with waves up to 4.5 metres could be dangerous to all shipping and coastal activities, including fishing and ferry services.

It also forecast the first category North-easterly winds and rough seas in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, East Johor and Sarawak (Bintulu, Mukah, Kuching) to continue until Thursday.

The wind at a speed of up to 50km per hour with waves reaching 4.5 meters are dangerous to small crafts, recreational sea activities and sea sports.

Similar strong winds and rough seas are expected to hit Condore, Reef North, Reef South, Samui, Tioman, Bunguran, Palawan, Layang-Layang and Labuan. Meanwhile, thunderstorm activities occurring over the waters off Perak, Terengganu, Pahang, East Johor, Melaka Straits and Tioman are expected to continue until tomorrow (Wednesday).

This condition may cause strong winds up to 50km per hour and rough seas with waves measuring 3.5 metres high and are dangerous to small boats, according to the statement. — BERNAMA
